Grace Collection #10: DIY Elegant Dual-Layered Ribbon Bow Hair Clip Tutorial

Embrace understated sophistication with our latest DIY project! In this Grace Collection tutorial, we'll guide you through crafting a stunning Dual-Layered Ribbon Bow Hair Clip that perfectly blends formal elegance with subtle grace. Using lustrous light grey fabric ribbons and ethereal black sheer ribbons, this accessory offers a chic, formal look, softened by the delicate transparency of the sheer material. It’s an easy yet rewarding craft that results in a unique hairpiece suitable for any occasion.

Materials You'll Need:

Light Grey Fabric Ribbon: 1 inch wide, 7 inches long (2 pieces)

Black Sheer Ribbon: 1 inch wide, 7 inches long (2 pieces)

Black Ribbon (narrow): 0.3 inches wide, 2 inches long (1 piece)

Metal Alligator Hair Clip (1)

Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks (pre-heated)

Elastic Cotton Thread (1 roll)

Double-Sided Tape (1 roll)

Scissors (not explicitly mentioned in step 1, but implied)

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
1.Prepare Your Ribbons: Take all four (two light grey fabric, two black sheer) 1-inch wide, 7-inch long ribbons. Fold each ribbon in half to find its center line. Apply double-sided tape along this center line. Then, bring both ends of each ribbon towards the center line and adhere them onto the double-sided tape to secure the folds.

2.Create the Fabric Bow Base: Take the two prepared light grey fabric ribbons. Overlap them at a 30-degree angle where they intersect. Using your hand, horizontally fold three pleats into the intersecting part of the two ribbons. Hold firmly, then take your elastic cotton thread and tightly wrap it around the center of the pleats approximately 15 times. Tie off the thread securely and snip off any excess. This forms your main fabric bow.

3.Form the Sheer Ribbon Bow: Follow the exact same procedure as Step 3 to create a separate bow using the two black sheer ribbons.

4.Assemble the Dual-Layered Bow: Apply a dot of hot glue to the top, thread-wrapped center of the light grey fabric bow. Carefully place and press the black sheer ribbon bow onto this glue, ensuring it’s centered and securely attached to the fabric bow.

5.Attach to the Hair Clip: Apply hot glue to the top-middle section of the metal alligator hair clip. Carefully align and press the assembled dual-layered bow onto the glued section of the clip, holding it until the glue sets.

6.Secure and Finish the Center: Take the 0.3-inch wide, 2-inch long black ribbon. Apply hot glue to one end of this short ribbon. Adhere it to the top center of your bow (where the thread is wrapped). Wrap the black ribbon firmly around the center of the bow, covering the elastic thread.

7.Reinforce the Clip Attachment: While still holding the wrapped ribbon, gently press open the bottom part of the alligator clip. Apply a small amount of hot glue to the underside of the top jaw of the clip. Firmly press the loose end of the black ribbon onto this glue, securing it tightly to the back of the clip. This not only hides the thread but also adds extra reinforcement to the entire hair clip.

And there you have it! A beautifully simple yet elegant dual-layered ribbon bow hair clip, perfect for adding a touch of sophisticated charm to your look.
