Grace Collection #7: Elegant Two-Tone Angled Ribbon Bow Hair Clip Tutorial

Welcome back to the Grace Collection, where simplicity meets sophistication. In this seventh installment, we explore the beauty of understated design with a project that results in a refined two-tone angled ribbon bow hair clip. This piece, crafted from classic black and subtle grey, embodies an effortless elegance that proves plainness can be profoundly stylish.

Materials You'll Need:

  • 2 pieces of Ribbon, 1 inch wide and 7 inches long (one black with white horizontal stripes, one light grey)
  • 1 piece of Light Grey Ribbon, 1 inch wide and 2 inches long
  • 1 Alligator Clip
  • Hot Glue Gun with Glue Sticks (preheat and keep ready)
  • 1 Lighter (for heat-sealing ribbon ends)
  • 1 roll of Elastic Cotton Thread

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

  1. Take the two 7-inch long ribbons (black and light grey). For each ribbon, apply double-sided tape along its center line. Then, fold both ends towards the center line and secure them onto the tape.
  2. Lay the two prepared ribbons one over the other, creating a crossover with an approximate 30-degree angle. Place the black ribbon on top and the light grey ribbon underneath.
  3. Carefully fold the overlapping section of both ribbons horizontally twice, pinching them firmly to create a neat center.
  4. While holding the pinched ribbons tightly with one hand, use your other hand to wrap elastic cotton thread around the center of the overlapping section. Wind the thread approximately 15 times, tie it securely, and cut the excess thread. This forms your basic bow shape.
  5. Apply hot glue to the top surface of the alligator clip.
  6. Attach the bottom of your newly formed bow onto the hot glue on the alligator clip, ensuring the clip is largely covered by the bow. Press firmly and hold until the hot glue cools and sets.
  7. Take the 2-inch long light grey ribbon. Fold it horizontally into three equal parts.
  8. Use a lighter to carefully melt and fuse the raw ends of the tri-folded ribbon together. Gently pinch the melted edges to secure them.
  9. Wrap this fused grey ribbon around the center of your completed bow, covering the wrapped cotton thread. Open the alligator clip, apply hot glue to both ends of the wrapping ribbon, and secure them to the backside of the alligator clip's top. Finally, carefully remove any excess hot glue for a clean finish.

And there you have it – a simple yet sophisticated ribbon bow hair clip is ready to adorn your hair!

Design Philosophy:

This Grace Collection #7 bow hair clip truly embodies understated elegance. Using a palette of deep, classic tones—black with subtle white stripes and a soft grey—it achieves a refined look without any superfluous embellishments. The genius lies in the angled overlap of the two ribbons, which creates a simple yet compelling symmetry. It’s a design that finds its beauty in its quiet dignity and thoughtful construction, proving that a humble piece can still exude profound grace. It's a testament to how even in simplicity, true style can shine through.
