Cosy Collection #1: Monochromatic Multi-Layer Rose Gold Hair Tie Tutorial

Welcome back to the Cosy Collection, where we explore the art of creating unique and elegant hair accessories. In this first installment, we delve into a design that embodies sophistication through simplicity. This tutorial will guide you through crafting a distinct monochromatic multi-layer rose gold hair tie, featuring an ingenious layered design that makes it quietly remarkable.

Materials You'll Need:
•Ribbon: A continuous roll of 1.5-inch wide ribbon in Rose Gold (uncut)
•Hair Tie: 1 velvet-textured elastic hair tie
•Hardware & Findings:
•1 Omega-shaped (Ω) plastic base piece
•1 small golden jump ring
•1 faux pearl plastic charm
•Backing & Templates:
•1 round black non-woven felt circle
•1 piece of corrugated cardboard (pre-cut into a 1.5-inch diameter circle template)

•Tools:
•Sewing needle and about 20 cm of elastic thread
•Hot glue gun with glue sticks (preheat and keep ready)
•Fabric scissors
•Lighter (for heat-sealing edges)
•Needle-nose pliers

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Prep the Ribbon Circles
Using your 1.5-inch cardboard circle as a template, cut 18 identical circles from the rose gold ribbon. Lightly singe the edges of each circle with a lighter to prevent fraying.

Step 2: Create the Petals
Take 3 ribbon circles and stack them neatly on top of each other. Fold the stack in half twice to form a quarter-circle wedge shape. Holding the folded pieces firmly with your left hand, use the needle and thread to pierce and secure the pointed tip of the wedge, creating your first structured petal.

Step 3: Complete the Petal Set
Repeat the previous step until you have created a total of 4 identical multi-layered petals

Step 4: Create the Flower Base
Take the remaining 6 ribbon circles and stack them together. Insert the needle and thread directly through the center of the stack, pulling tight to secure them together as the base.

Step 5: Trim and Seal the Petals
Using your scissors, carefully trim a tiny bit off the bottom pointed tip of each of the 4 petals (be careful not to cut the thread). Use your lighter to quickly sear the newly cut edges so they are clean and neat.

Step 6: Assemble the Flower
Divide the 6-layer base stack by folding it open at the 3rd layer. Hold it open, apply hot glue to the bottom of one prepared petal, and press it firmly into the center with the fan shape facing outward.
Next, flip to the other side of the base stack and open it at the 4th layer (ensuring it’s on a different layer than the first petal). Glue the second petal into the center, fan shape facing outward.
Finally, apply hot glue to the bottoms of the remaining 2 petals and attach them to the very top of the 6-layer base, keeping the fan shapes facing outward and the tips pointing inward. Give the outer edges of the assembled petals a quick pass with the lighter to clean up the shape.

Step 7: Attach the Backing
Apply a layer of hot glue to one side of the black non-woven felt circle. Press it firmly onto the flat, petal-free back of your 6-layer ribbon flower base.

Step 8: Secure the Hair Tie
Apply hot glue to the inner groove of the Omega-shaped plastic piece, and press the metal crimp/joint portion of the hair tie into it. Then, apply hot glue to the outer side of the plastic piece and press it securely onto the bottom of the black felt backing.

Step 9: Add the Charm Accent
Using your needle-nose pliers, open the small golden jump ring, loop it through the faux pearl charm, and attach it to the hair tie right where it meets the base of the flower. Close the jump ring securely.
And just like that, your unique monochromatic multi-layer rose gold hair tie is ready to wear!
